All Hail The New Normal

If it's too loud, fuck off.

Hi, I’m Lauren Rothman. I defy authority. Check out my FAQ.

You’ll be able to find me here, where I will update frequently. Probably with aplomb and vigor. I excel at shooting off my mouth and I’m really good at typing, so I think this is going to be a pretty amusing jaunt. I enjoy mean-spirited humor (I like it spiteful), loud rock and roll music, political activism and yelling, in addition to how much I adore traipsing around on foot all over West Hollywood, California. I still have no recorded moving violations and I would love to watch Sartre and Camus beat the living shit out of one another. Talk about absurd.

Despite scoring in the 99th percentile when the SAT had a ‘verbal section’ designation, I often insist on using a cornucopia of foul language, usually consisting of 4-letter words. As a child I spent a lot of time alone in my bedroom where all I did was read, write, listen to music, break computers, fix computers and pretend I didn’t start smoking when I was 13. I haven’t changed much, but people like me become useful when we grow up.

What do I do? I write and talk to people. Well, like everyone else in Los Angeles, I do a lot of things, but if I don’t do something well, I don’t bother discussing it in public.

When I was about 10, I started reviewing music weekly on WTSP Tampa Bay’s “10 Teen Magazine”, which I did for a little while. My responsibilities included producing, shooting, editing and writing copy for my segments, in addition to coordinating advanced bumper and tag data with our newsroom. The albums I reviewed included “Purple” by Stone Temple Pilots, “Siamese Dream” by The Smashing Pumpkins, “Voodoo Lounge” by The Rolling Stones, and a pretty large catalog of other artists. I was also slimed at the now-defunct Nickelodeon Studios/Universal Studios Orlando for one segment, which I understand is now considered something of an honor.

I was the youngest student to receive membership in the history of The Beverly Hills Playhouse under the direction of Milton Katselas, in addition to a lot of other cool things. I’m interested in talking to bands I love, because I will write about you like crazy, and local Los Angeles bands get me going as well, I love going to shows and hearing new things as often as I can. Email me if I should know about you, you could end up on this website, maybe we’ll hang out.

I’m in the process of getting rich, beaten up, or even both sometimes, because I play my cards right and I am a betting woman. It’s real rogue! I write about music and events in Los Angeles as they unfold at the base (heh, Beavis) of the Sunset Strip; you may have seen me at LA Weekly, Talk Nerdy To Me Lover and a slew of other places. Currently, I consult with a lot of cool artists, but like Fight Club, I do not name names unless water-boarding enters the equation, and that’s still going to waste 4 or 5 hours of time. While I like LA, I prefer being on the road as a Jill of All Trades. We haven’t had any really fun tour reports since Noel’s Monk’s opus to the Sex Pistols, so if you want to take me out with you, we could fix that.

I love Veggie Grill. Support the Chickn’ Caesar Wrap. It’s one of the few addictions I partake in these days.
